In 2011 we volunteered to help a local non-profit in need through desigNYC. We were paired up with The Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center, a historical landmark in the Lower East Side.
Due to lack of an existing logo, we started by designing a brand identity system that shortens its name to just The Clemente, and developing a color palette that celebrates the building founder’s legacy based on latino country flags.
Our signage proposal, currently undergoing the city approval process, delineates The Clemente as a modern cultural center in the Lower East Side while preserving its history as a former public school.
