Queens Library (case study) - KUDOS Design Collaboratory™

DEVELOPING A MODERN VISUAL SYSTEM FOR A FAR-REACHING COMMUNITY INSTITUTION

KUDOS developed Brand Guidelines for the Queens Library, a New York institution with 62 branches offering 50,000 community events and programs annually in addition to lending books to 2.3 million people. The new guidelines apply to materials in print, on screen, and on buildings, creating a better visitor experience and improving internal marketing and communication functions.

EASY ON THE EYES
The new typography allows improved legibility at a pedestrian level within the library space, making it easier to identify different sections of the library.

A NEW VISUAL VOICE
The new serif typeface allows Queens Library tagline to show off the newfound friendliness, which also carries over to shopping bags, posters, and other communication materials.

TRANSFORMED COMMUNICATIONS
To transform communications inside and outside of the 62 library branches, KUDOS updated signage templates with eye-catching graphics, cleaner layouts and more modern, legible typefaces. Everything from temporary end-cap signs to permanent wayfinding signs to outdoor banners receive a facelift.

RESULTS
With these updated and modern branding guidelines, the Queens Library is ready for the future. Thanks to the new marketing system and KUDOS’ help streamlining their internal processes, the Queens Library central marketing office can now painlessly design requested materials for the various branches, quickly producing hundreds of quality copies on its in-house printers to inform the community about its numerous events and programs. At each branch, old or new, improved marketing displays and updated signage will effectively propel all 62 locations into the 21st century.
